AVOID THIS ONE THING AND START SMART
Today I want to share with you ONE important thing to avoid when you are thinking about starting a fitness routine.
After 33 years ( yes, that’s 33) in the fitness field, I am still asked the same questions over and over:
- “Which diet works the best?”
- “Which workout is the best?”
- “How fast can I lose the weight?”
One person says THIS, and the other person says THAT.
EVERYBODY is an expert these days…
And THAT, my friends, is what you need to learn to avoid first, the “so-called” Fitness Experts.
Please! Listen to me!!
Having a million Instagram followers does NOT make you a fitness professional;
Being a celebrity does NOT make you a fitness expert;
Fitting into a size 3, and having implants, does NOT make you a fitness expert!
And truthfully, being a fitness expert does NOT make him/her the right expert for you!
I am not everybody’s cup of tea. I rather be somebody’s shot of tequila, anyway! LOL
I’m kidding, I heard that joke, and it made me laugh. But seriously …
I do a very specific thing … I am a fat-loss expert, and I do it through weight training!
If you want to lose weight through Zumba®, I am not your guy!
If you want to know how to improve your baseball game, I am definitely not your guy!
What I am saying here is that when you go out to find a trainer/coach or even a mentor, that person should have gone through what you have, and/or has successfully helped many people that are or have gone through what you are going through with the same goals.
I have this one client that came to me totally frustrated with her lack of progress, and upset with her trainer at the time. We will call her Ronda for the purpose of this post.
Ronda is married, 45 years old, has 2 jobs, and 2 kids (6 and 13 years old).
Her trainer is 24 years old, no kids, no husband, and works at a local commercial gym. BUT … she has won several local bikini contests.
Does she have children herself? No! In fact, she lives home with Mommy and Daddy. Has she ever transformed anybody? Nope! Was she ever overweight herself? Nope!
How can this be a good match?
Wasted money, and more importantly wasted time!
Here are just a few questions you should ask yourself that I believe will help you move towards success in your fitness journey:
Question 1: Ask yourself, what are my specific goals?
Question 2: What do I want to accomplish?
Question 3: How much weight do I want to lose or gain?
Question 4: What do I want to look like?
Question 5: How do I want to feel?
Question 6: How do I want to perform?
Question 7: And, in what time frame?
Your answers to the above questions will determine your meal plan, and what training regimen will be best for you.
I had a great coach when I won Mr. America, Mr. USA, and the NABBA National Championships! I could have never done it with out him! Thank you, Bob Gruskin!
For those who are looking for a trainer, below is a quick list of things to look for:
- First, the trainer should have plenty of Transformation pictures, and testimonials from many clients that you can reach out and talk to.
- Ask them what their training methodologies and strategies are. Are they going to be using bodybuilding techniques, kickboxing-type workouts, or running in the park?
- Make sure that you are okay with it so that you can also somewhat enjoy the process.
The main point here is to take massive action, BUT do it with the right people to ensure your ultimate success!!
